Music Exchange has started a dialogue
Cape Town, 15 April 2009
Music Exchange has started a dialogue that’s been sorely missing in the South African music and entertainment industry and the sheer swell of support for the inaugural conference proves that people are keen to be empowered and, more importantly, share knowledge and experience to the collective benefit of all who actively participate in the space now created.

A massive thank you!
Cape Town, 22 March 2009
Hi there Martin
I just wanted to thank you for two incredible days.
I’m releasing my 3rd album in the next two months and the timing was just perfect.
I’ve got enough knowledge now to put things in place to swing my career into a positive cashflow instead of the other way round.
I say, bring it on. I’m ready!! Music exchange gave me those tools.
Kind regards
Venessa Nolan
brilliant!
Cape Town, 22nd March 2009
Hey M
This serves to tell you how much I admire your amazing job and the sacrifice it took to put it together. Brilliant! is all I have to say.
I made a joke saying this is the best thing I ever saw you do – which is true, but does NOT minimize your contribution especially in the world of fashion and events. This took serious balls and vision, nevermind the financial risk you were okay to take on. This event will come back to you in a big way as you started something from which you cannot return. You will be blessed by this generous deed, especially because you were able to bring such high profile guys to the table. You know how rabid I am about the development of the CPT industry, and you have achieved in one fell swoop a most impressive and heroic foundation.
Thank you for the level of excellence you show the composers/songwriters/artists and the inspiration it must stoke in their hearts. Please continue with this mindset – we all need a heart, mind and soul like yours! Hail the M! You ARE aware!
Best always
Kind regards

Dear Martin and Peter,
A week on from the conference and my head is still jammed full of info - settling back into London mode and unravelling all the actions I'd given myself to follow up on!
The Mann Friday SA tour is approaching fast - and working with Brett at Sheer has been great to get all the media interviews lined up. I even knew the questions to ask about the royalty side of things - and lucky us to have Dave Alexander behind that too!
The opportunities for meeting these people and learning the stuff we didnt know was immense! And as always, the connections in the SA music industry are small and you're never far from knowing someone who knows someone you know!
Many many thanks to both of you for making this all possible! I shall indeed be at next years one - do keep in touch should you want any insight into the London side of things as we work and learn!
I write a blog about SA music in London should you wish to see who is playing over here and what we get to see of the SA scene! www.samusicinlondon.blogspot.com
I hope you have both recovered - and Im sure you're looking fwd to the weekend! Have a great one!
Happy Friday,
x Sue

Dear Tim
I would like to thank you, Peter and Martin for providing us with such a unique and much needed platform to discuss the music industry and to learn from experts in this field. I’m also very grateful for the opportunity to have one-on-one conversations with some of the speakers and panelists. I believe that Music Exchange will grow into a major event on the industry’s calendar in years to come.

MUSIC EXCHANGE AN INSPIRATION
Cape Town, 24th March 2009
The Music Exchange has really inspired me and has reconfirmed for me that I am on the right track.
It was superbly organized and the opportunities for networking were amazing.
I met many people, amongst them being Arthur Goldstuck, who's book 'The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Internet" which I read way back in 1996, was one of my early inspirations for starting to live my dream of being involved in the business of promoting music.
My involvement with this Music Exchange, including sitting on two panels, has been a definite highlight on my musical journey.
I was saddened that the major labels and retailers, who currently seem to be suffering and complaining the most about loss of sales, retrenchments, industry under siege, etc were conspicuous by their absence.
So they only have themselves to blame if they cannot embrace new technologies and trends.
That being said, I can sum up the whole conference with one observation: in the closing, you received a standing ovation ... that says it all.
An amazing honour
Cape Town, 23rd March 2009
Dear Martin,
Thank you very much for making the booking with us. It was an amazing honour to be part of the first event – one which we will cherish for a long time to come. Thank you also for the CD’s you gave to me and Karen – we are truly enjoying listening to them!
We want to congratulate you on putting together an amazing event – one which we hope to be part of in the future – though judging by the attendance this year – I fear our venues may not be big enough to host next year – BUT – whatever way we can still be involved – we’d love to be!
Look forward to hearing from you and please pop in for some coffee when you have a moment!
Regards,

CAPE TOWN MUSIC EXCHANGE!
Evolver, April '09 News
Johannesburg, 23rd March 2009
Evolver has just returned from a grueling music conference in the beautiful city of Cape Town. ‘The Music Exchange’ was a valuable experience, we had the opportunity to pick the brains of tons of professionals in our field. They flew in from as far as Oz & The States. It was pretty frightening to see the lack of support from the locally based major record labels. It is fantastic to see the love of rock exude from these delegates and how they aim at improving the standard of music management in South Africa.

Congratulation to a very successful Music Exchange
Cape Town, 21st March 2009
Dear Martin and Peter,
Congratulation to a very successful Music Exchange. One of many to come.
I was really impressed by the quality of the organisation. It is by far the best Music conference I have attended in Africa.
From the pre event at High Constantia, the live shows at Zula and of course the conference itself you created a special identity to this Conference: caring about the needs of the artists, delegates and panelists. An environment where newcomers (artists, composers, labels) had the opportunity to ask advice and talk to the more experienced one. And for me to meet many new people that objectives are to shape the new South African music industry.
I will definitely be there next year.
Well done.
